A lot of work is being done to develop new medicines for mankind. Earlier, our researches were mainly based on natural organic compounds. Later, we shifted our focus towards synthetic organic compounds. Unfortunately, synthetic medicines cause side effects. With the change in our lifestyle, we are facing a new challenge in medical science which can be solved by natural resources obtained from terrestrial and marine organisms . Thousands of new medicines were launched in the last few decades which originated from marine microbes, plants and animals. Now, marine medicines either directly or indirectly play a vital role in pharmacology. Therefore, this review provides background information on the new discoveries in marine pharmacology and highlights the issues that require attention.
