Low Cost E-Shaped Microstrip Patch Antenna Array for WLAN

Deepti Saxena, Sweta Agarwal, Sumit Srivastava

In this paper design of Microstrip patch array antenna for WLAN application is proposed. A new 2 element antenna array topology of Microstrip E shaped patches for use in Wireless applications is introduced in this paper. The Active element pattern technique is applied for analysing Microstrip array, which reduces analysis problem and computation. The operating frequency range is from 1 to 3 GHz. The array is mounted on a low-cost FR4 substrate and is fed by a standard 50 Ohm coaxial feed. A special combined series and corporate feeding network is incorporated directly in the array. The design chosen makes the array very compact and low cost. The array is designed using a full wave solver based on the moment method. The mutual coupling effect is added in the results of the proposed design. The FR-4 substrate with Dielectric constant 4.3 and loss tangent 0.019 is used for proposed design at resonant frequency of 3 GHz. Radiation characteristics, gain and return loss of the planar array antenna is simulated using MOM based Zeland IE3D simulation software . Operating frequency of this design is suitable for S-band and C-band application
